The centre of expertise conducts applied scientific research to make events and cities ‘better’.
Better events and cities have a larger public impact and thus a more effective deployment of means, people and material.
Our research activities aim at developing tools and guidelines to align events and other urban activities better to citizen and society.
By means of consultancy and trainings, we translate our expertise tailored to the various players in the event sector,
both in the public and the (non) profit sector.
A long history, in short...
The centre of expertise Public Impact - formerly known as the research group ROI for Public Events - has been conducting research into the local impact of public events since 2014.
The first steps were already taken in 2013 by Christine Merckx and Peter Decuypere, a collaboration in expertise that added a lot of value during the first two research years.
As from the second research year, the team was reinforced with the scientific guidance of dr. Joris Verhulst. As from 2016, the team was strengthened with the scientific research and communication skills of Julie De Smedt and the IT and development skills of Kenneth De Keulenaer.
Alreade since the beginning of 2018 dr. Jolien Vangeel has added great value to the centre of expertise, as well as dra. Eva Vermeire who das been a team member since September 2019.
